Johnson to Rousey: ‘Grow the f— up’

Warning: Story contains coarse language

Demetrious Johnson isn’t pulling any punches on Ronda Rousey.

The longtime flyweight champ currently sits one title defense away from sole ownership of the UFC record, but he recently told Sports Illustrated’s Jon Wertheim that he hasn’t attached too much magnitude to the record – because unlike Rousey, he’s accepted he isn’t invincible.

“You know, people say, ‘I visualize myself at this point.’ I visualize myself losing most of the time just because I’ve seen so many champions lose, and they don’t know how to take it. Their whole world is upside down. ‘Oh, my God, what am I going to do?'” Johnson said.

“You look at Ronda Rousey. You got your ass beat, grow the fuck up. It happens. It’s mixed martial arts. I don’t want to be like that. If I lose, I’ll be like, I lost.”

After cleaning house at 135 pounds in both Strikeforce and the UFC, Rousey’s record-setting run came to a brutal end courtesy of Holly Holm at UFC 193. “Rowdy” largely kept out of the public eye over the ensuing 13 months, only to be obliterated by Amanda Nunes in 48 seconds upon returning at UFC 207. Aside from announcing her engagement to UFC heavyweight Travis Browne, the all-but-retired Rousey has since resumed her reclusive ways, but that didn’t stop Johnson from stressing the importance of learning to accept an L.

“Everybody fucking loses. It’s part of the sport. Grow up,” Johnson said. “Look, Ronda, you lost two fucking fights in a row, and you made more fucking money than the women’s roster. You’ll be fine, don’t worry about it.”

LaVar ups his price to $3B despite modest shoe sales

The Los Angeles Lakers weren’t the only ones to benefit from the NBA draft lottery. Not only will they keep their top-three protected pick, but they’ll be in a position at No. 2 to pick Lonzo Ball – which is music to LaVar Ball’s ears.

The inevitable marriage of Lonzo and his hometown Lakers gives the Big Baller Brand an even bigger platform, which has in turn led LaVar Ball to raise his demand should any major sporting apparel brand return his interest in co-branding BBB.

“Now that Lonzo’s headed to Los Angeles, what they should have done is give me a billion dollars and let me be on my way,” LaVar said during an appearance on The Herd with Colin Cowherd.

“Now you know … if they want to talk to me now, it just went up to $3 billion. Triple Bs, billion, billion, billion. That’s the only way they going to come at me. I’m already in the building. I don’t need them for nothing, as you can tell.”

BBB unveiled signature sneakers for Lonzo retailing at $495 per pair in early May after his $1 billion co-branding proposal was rejected by Nike, Adidas, and Under Armour.

Sales have been modest to start, as LaVar revealed that only 400 to 500 pairs have been sold since the ZO2s dropped two weeks ago.
